Our Opportunity:

The Director of Investigations and Executive Security has responsibilities consistent with the essential duties described below.  Corporate Real Estate/Corporate Security requires a Director to manage a variety of oversight duties as well as coordinate internal investigations for the firm.  This Director will also team with the Corporate Security Vice President to manage, enforce and accommodate security for the executives of the firm, as set forth in the policies and procedures.   

What you’ll do:

 Internal firm wide Investigation:

  • Director of Investigations leads investigation into physical security incidents, including threats or acts of violence, damage to Schwab facilities or company resources or theft issues involving employees.
  • Director of Investigations is responsible for investigations involving employee misconduct, employee safety, or allegations of fraud.  Director is responsible for notifying the appropriate Schwab entities, i.e. Schwab Human Resources, Facilities, Compliance, and Corporate Legal Services; thereafter, facilitates an investigation ensuring team participation.

 Executive Security: 

  • Director of Investigations teams with the Vice President of Corporate Security to manage oversight for the firm’s executive staff, to include the Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board.  This involves the physical security of the executive floors to include access control from lower floors and the parking garage and manage protocol for non-Schwab visitors to the executive floors.
  • When warranted and approved, provide oversight for individual security for CEO, Chairman and members of the Executive Staff, Board of Directors.
  • Manage and provide resolution for threats to the CEO, Chairman and members of the Executive Staff and Board of Directors.  This may involve threatening letters, attempts at personal contact, threats through electronic media, etc.
  • In high national threat advisories, coordinate articulated security measures for all members of the Executive Staff to include the CEO, Chairman and others in critical business positions.
  • The Director of Investigations is responsible for providing senior executives with written threat/travel reports for international travel.  This often involves providing names, phone numbers for official U.S. Embassies and Consulates throughout the world.  The Director will be responsible for gathering this information through liaisons with government agencies, FBI, CIA, U.S. Department of State, Homeland Security and other public source material.  It is critical for this candidate to be able to develop these types of liaisons with that community.

 Global Vendor Risk Management:

  • The Director of Investigation will have the oversight for the Corporate Security subject matter expert with respect to risk mitigation for onboarding vendors to the various Schwab business entities.  The Senior Analyst and Corporate Security member of the Corporate Vendor Management risk group will report to the Director of Investigations.  Inasmuch as this is a critical role staffed by one analyst, the Director will serve as an alternate member of the CVM Risk Team during heightened workloads, vacations and other absences.

 Special Events Management and Oversight:

  • The Director of Investigations will have the responsibility of providing security, insight and guidance in many of the special events that take place throughout the country.  Security is essential at these events because of national threat postures, firm wide threats, individual personnel threats and other issues involving protests and civil unrest.  The Director is instrumental in the development of security planning and execution in the numerous special events that occur.  This requires a high attention to liaison skills with the outside government agencies, local government and police authorities.  The Director will also be required to be cognizant of the daily “threat picture” throughout the U.S. and internationally.
  •  Development and Maintenance of Liaison with Outside Sources: This position will be responsible for developing liaison with Federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies as well as with Federal, state, and local emergency response groups to ensure the firm is acutely aware of threats and potential threats to the wellbeing of the firm.

 Supervisory responsibilities are carried out in accordance with the policies and    procedures of the Charles Schwab Corporation, Corporate Real Estate, and Corporate Security and are in compliance with all laws, rules, and regulations applicable to the position.

What you have:

  • 10+ years in a Corporate Security Environment or Federal, State or local law enforcement.
  • Supervisory experience essential.
  • Proven probative skills
  • High degree of common sense with the ability to think outside the corporate environment.
  • Proven liaison skills
  • Strategic planning skills and ability to think ahead and plan over a short term/long term  time span
  • Proven track record of implementing major, multi-year initiatives across a large organization
  • Strong project management skills and the ability to organize and manage multiple priorities
  • Ability to influence across organizational boundaries and build strong partnerships
  • Demonstrated ability to lead people and develop/coach a team
  • Ability to attract and retain talent
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Bachelor’s degree required
