The Product Technology Manager, part of the Control Architecture and Technology group, is responsible for managing the portfolio of selected technology assets for Rockwell Automation. Key responsibilities include the evaluation, definition and execution of system level requirements and the delivery of common technology assets to Rockwell Automation businesses and 3rd party automation product suppliers. This position requires an understanding of the automation market, competitive offerings, and customer needs to provide technology direction and implementation in Rockwell Automation control system products. This role interacts frequently with customers, product management, engineering, other Rockwell Automation businesses and third party partners.

Essential Functions:
This position acts as the key liaison between market needs, product management and technology research and development. The product technology manager provides strategic technology and system level direction to the product development teams in support of the business plan. In addition, this position is responsible to develop, implement and maintain appropriate processes aimed at capturing and transferring market, technical, competitive and intellectual property to the product businesses.

The primary responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:
  • Develop system level technology strategies to improve the company’s capability to address customer problems.
  • Measure the business value of technology investments and leadership in the prioritization of investments associated with technology development.
  • Lead the execution of assigned technology assets (hardware and software).
  • Manage the lifecycle of assigned portfolio of technology assets.
  • Drive enterprise wide adoption of assigned technologies.
  • Gather customer / market requirements for system level enhancements across all global regions. Use this information to create customer centric system requirements to be used as the base for product development by product management, engineering and test teams.
  • Ensure appropriate collaboration with the product management and engineering teams to develop, monitor and implement adjustments to the strategic plan based on market conditions and trends.
  • Perform evaluations of internal & external technologies to ensure world-class technology development and utilization via various benchmarking activities and create innovative ways to address customer problems.
  • Act as a liaison with engineering teams providing feedback about current and future customer needs.
  • Collaborate across businesses to ensure consistency in system architecture and product roadmaps.
  • Attend technical symposiums and exhibits on industrial control systems to maintain knowledge on available and competitive technology and for presenting papers and seminars as appropriate to promote RA products.

    Bachelor’s degree in related technical field or equivalent experience in the automation industry
  • 10+ years of related experience and demonstrated knowledge of automation industry applications.
  • Control system and software background required.
  • Strong customer relationship management skills and ability to collaborate with various functions and business units geographically dispersed to achieve position objectives.
  • Previous product management experience preferred.
