Our dedicated team at AdventHealth South Overland Park provides a full suite of medical and emergency services to communities in southern Johnson County. Our team of experts offer 24/7 emergency room services, ICU care, labor and delivery, cardiology care, surgical services, physical, occupational and speech therapy, imaging and more. The state-of-the-art hospital is connected to a medical office building with a full suite of medical services including internal medicine, cardiology, orthopedics, OB/GYN, endocrinology and more. The role you’ll contribute:

Nutrition Associate 2 acts primarily with food preparation and food safety.   Nutrition Associates perform a variety of duties including but not limited to: preparation of hot/cold recipes according to standardized recipes in the correct amount for patients and cafeteria; receiving and processing deliveries; cleanliness and sanitation of the department & equipment; assembling & delivering patient meals; maintaining a high level of food safety.  Nutrition Associate 2 must be able to work accurately and efficiently on multiple tasks throughout the day and is capable of frequently switching tasks to focus on patient requests and immediate safety/sanitation concerns.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Customer Service

  • Maintains a positive relationship with clinical & non-clinical colleagues, nutrition staff, patients, and their families.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skills for appropriate communication and courtesy using AIDET and LAST regarding service recovery.
  • Strives to go above and beyond the customer’s expectations and tries to satisfy the patient/guest’s needs even when it is outside the normal routine.
  • Always maintains professional behavior and appearance in the workplace through grooming, dress, language, and non-verbal behavior.

Communication

  • Informs supervisor/manager of patient/guest comments and food service issues. 
  • Reports equipment issues to manager to insure safety and quality of food.
  • Able to use all communication tools and methods necessary to complete required tasks.
  • Maintains open communication with manager regarding concerns and opportunities for development in line with AdventHealth Talent Care.
  • Alerts supervisor/manager of product or ingredient substitutions/shortages.

 

Accuracy

  • Assuring that the meal tray matches the meal ticket for patient safety as well as identify and correct any errors.
  • Uses sound judgement when acting as a steward for the department’s resources.
  • Consistently collects/records food temperatures to insure food safety.
  • Follows recipes for patient tray line and cafeteria line.

 

Safety and Sanitation

  • Maintains a neat, well-organized workstation.  Demonstrates clean-as-you-go method.
  • Practices good hand hygiene and demonstrates proper procedures when using single-use gloves.  Restrains hair when in food prep/service areas.
  • Understands and adheres to all food safety/sanitation standards related to the position and reports any areas of concern to a supervisor/manager.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the food temperature danger zone.  Demonstrates knowledge of proper food storage including FIFO, labeling & dating of items, as well as when to discard food items for the purpose of safety.
  • Demonstrates safety guidelines in the kitchen including knowledge of emergency exits, fire extinguisher use, and emergency preparedness.

 

Job Knowledge

  • Maintains patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations at all times.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the basic diet types as well as correctly modifies food items in accordance with IDDSI guidelines.
  • Understands how to accurately take temperatures of food, and record equipment temperatures in logs.
  • Understands where to find and how to follow patient menu recipes.
  • Makes efforts to learn new skills frequently and at a proficient level.
  • Recommends additions/changes to patient and café menus, and takes initiative to create new items.

 

Work Readiness

  • Consistently arrives on time for shift, beginning meal service(s) on time, and completes work in an efficient manner.
  • Follows Nutrition Associate 2 routine to ensure that all work is produced in an efficient, timely manner and is error free.
  • Consistently answers phone calls in a timely fashion and returns phone messages quickly.

 

Problem Solving Skills

  • Capable of making reasonable, rational, common sense decisions while working with patients, nutrition staff, medical staff, and guests. 
  • Takes responsibility for issues as they arise and proactively finds solutions.
  • Communicates all safety concerns to department manager.

 

Patient Contact

  • Responds to patient requests with compassion and efficiency; communicates with patients regarding service recovery.
  • Verifies patient identity using two patient identifiers.
Qualifications

The expertise and experiences you’ll need to succeed:

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Read, Write & Speak English
  • Legible handwriting
  • Mathematical skills essential to job duties

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS PREFERRED:

    • Bi-Lingual (English/Spanish)
    • Skilled at Microsoft office suite
  • Experience with a Point of Sale System
  • Food Safety and Sanitation

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

    • 2+ years of position related experience
    • High School Diploma or GED or 4 years of relevant work experience

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:

    • Prior experience as a line cook or prep cook.
    • Prior experience in a hospital or other care facility foodservice operation
