You Will Be Responsible For:  

 

The Operations Manager of Nursing, Whole Person, & Academic Research is responsible for the strategic staffing, hiring, and management of research staff that supports biobehavioral research within AHRI. This leader scientist ensures that the research staff provide knowledgeable, friendly, professional and timely support to research scientists, faculty, staff, external partners and collaborating scientists.  This individual is responsible for assuring compliance with various federal and state regulations and laws, as well as following AHRI guidelines and policies created to manage risk to both research participants and the institution. This leader scientist identifies new ways to recruit participants that may not already be engaged in clinical care in the organization.  This leader is responsible for assisting the Sr. Manager and Scientific Director in the development and ongoing education of policies and procedures related to the conduct of research.  This leader is responsible for collaborative, implementation of whole person, behavioral health research studies. This leader will navigate operational logistics to overcome recruitment obstacles.  This leader conducts biomedical database literature searches and information synthesis in support of departmental activities.

 

This leader is responsible for managing relationships with all AdventHealth clinical sites and affiliated colleges and universities across the system.  This leader represents AdventHealth’s whole-person philosophy professionally both within and outside of the organization.  Develops, oversees, and implements strategies to facilitate the enrollment of underrepresented populations on research studies across AHRI.  Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.

Qualifications

What You Will Need:

 

Education and Experience Required

  • Master’s degree      
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in research 
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in project management 

 

Education and Experience Preferred:

 

  • 2 years of experience recruiting into community-based research trials
  • Peer-reviewed publications based on primary or secondary data

 

Certification Required:

  • ACRP – Association of Clinical Research Professionals (OR)
  • SOCRA – Society of Clinical Research Associates

 

Knowledge and Experience Required:

 

  • Ability to balance and prioritize multiple projects concurrently
  • Thorough understanding of the federal regulations and GCP covering the human subjects research process and operations.
  • Strong organization skills, leadership abilities, ability to coach effectively, and function independently using logical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to make and own operational decisions and revise approaches based on outcomes achieved
  • Comprehensive knowledge of research compliance with ability to adhere to AHRI policies and procedures designed to manage risk
  • Ability to do effective staff training and development
  • Ability to work well with others, using tact and diplomacy in verbal and written communication, while demonstrating exceptional teamwork skills.
  • Ability to formulate and adhere to departmental budgets
  • Ability to track recruitment performance and financial performance across studies and to revise approaches based on these analyses
  • Makes recommendations for AHRI-selected software for study database development
  • Able to adjust personal style to meet research customers with differing skill levels to ensure successful collaboration
  • Computer skills: MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project), Internet and other research tools, and databases
  • Knowledge of principles, practices and concepts of research
  • Knowledge of research methodologies
  • Knowledge of Cochrane Reviews and other biomedical information resources

Supervisory Responsibilities:

 

  • Provide supervision to operational staff members of Nursing, Whole Person & Academic department (see current org chart).
  • Develops research protocol budgets and tracks adherence to the budgets monthly
  • Contributes to annual department operating and capital budget formation and tracks adherence to departmental budget monthly
  • Manages research departmental operating budget and reports variances to the Sr. Manager.  Proposes solutions to the Sr. Manager to implement corrective action plans to address variances.

 

Job Summary:

 

  • Monitors and directs daily research operations and reports any unresolvable discrepancies or problems to the Sr. Manager. 
  • Orients and oversees performance of department staff to assigned studies.
  • Meets with Sr. Manager on a regular basis to discuss, plan and assist with research operations, growth and development. 
  • Maintains current knowledge of ICH Good Clinical Practices for human subjects’ research and all local, state, and federal regulations governing the conduct of human subject research and ensures that all research activity is conducted in full compliance with regulations. 
  • Collaborates with Sr. Manager to provide appropriate training to research staff in protection of human subjects’ research, research methodology, federal regulatory compliance and protocol operations. 
  • Ensures accurate reporting and record keeping as required for the AHRI IRB and Office of Research Integrity.
  • Assists the Sr. Manager and Scientific Director in developing long-term strategic plans for department’s work throughout the system, building on results of prior studies
  • Works with Scientific Director to develop and implement plans for new research initiatives and collaborations with external partners.
  • Provides support to internal departments and potential external partners in developing research initiatives and program evaluation. 
  • Participates in developing and implementing strategies to facilitate the enrollment of underrepresented populations on research studies.
  • Participates in various hospital and Institute committees, such as the Research Departments IRB and the Research Departments Protocol Review & Monitoring Committee. 
  • Works with Scientific Director and Research Department Investigators to develop and implement plans for new research initiatives and collaborations with external scientists and Corporate Sponsors. 
  • Monitors the process for selection of protocols to ensure the most efficient process is being implemented by the research staff to increase enrollment.
  • Monitors and audits performance of all departmental protocols.
  • Monitors research related revenue and expenses.
  • Collaborates with internal and external partners to develop pathways for implementation of nursing, whole person, & academic research.
  • Facilitates dissemination of information about nursing, whole person, & academic research to internal stakeholders and community representatives.
  • Participates in strategic committees to represent departmental research to ensure work is tied to overall organizational goals and brand promise.
  • Collaborates with AdventHealth and research departments marketing staff to promote awareness of research trials in the department.
  • Supervises staff responsible for contributing to website content and updates.
  • Ensures proper training and mentoring for department staff.
  • Develops staff job descriptions and ensures personnel files are maintained.
